Consumers and the organic food industry will benefit from a new arrangement that enables New Zealand and Taiwan to recognise each other’s certification of organic products, New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office director Moira Turley said today.
Director Turley said the arrangement supports the growth of opportunities for organics trade between both markets.
“This arrangement is a win for both markets. With mutual recognition of organic certification in place, it gives industry more certainty and Taiwanese consumers can have increased confidence in organic food imported from New Zealand, and vice versa.”
“New Zealand prides itself as one of Taiwan’s largest suppliers of high quality food and beverage, which includes premium organic products,” Director Turley said.
The mutual recognition arrangement was signed by Director Turley and by the Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Wellington, Bill Chen.
The arrangement is expected to take effect from May 2020.
